5 Habits Every Expectant Fathers Should Vow To Give Up This Father’s Day

Happy father’s day to every new and expecting father out there. It is very common that once you get a confirmation of the good news, you will want to start preparing for the new addition of your family. Most of the time, this list includes a healthy and balanced diet for the mother, routine visits to baby scan clinic, exercises, shopping for the baby, and so on. But one thing most people ignore or forget is about the lifestyle of the father.

Recent studies have shown that it is just not the mother, whose way of living affects the baby, but also the father’s habits. If the father has a bad habit, it is likely to affect the child, not just after the birth but also during pregnancy. So if you are expecting a child or you are a new father, take a new initiative on this father’s day to leave all those bad habits behind. Here are a few examples of them.

• Smoking:

This is probably the most common and also the most important habit that you should get rid of. It has been proven time and again that smoking can harm an unborn baby. Most mothers are asked not to smoke during this time. But it is also essential that fathers shouldn’t keep up this habit either. Studies show that men who smoke before conception and also in the presence of the pregnant mother, affect their offspring. If your child is already here and you haven’t been able to quit yet, then it’s no time like now.

• Drinking Alcohol:

While occasional drinking doesn’t seem to harm anyone if you are a regular drinker, it's paramount that you quit it or at least cut back a bit. If you don’t quit your drinking now, it might affect your kids badly once they grow up a bit.

• Control Your Temper:

Do you tend to lose your temper very quickly? If you get angry very quickly, or shout and fight a lot if you get angry, this is the perfect time to learn to rein in your temper. You need to learn to be patient as it is one of the most important things a child needs, whether they are newborn, infant, or teenager. Also, your fighting can affect the child’s mental health from an early stage.

• Reduce Technology Time:

Living in a technology world, we are surrounded by gadgets all the time. A lot of recent cases have reported that because the parents were too involved with gadgets, their child didn’t learn to talk or started talking at the age of 4 or 5. Due to the lack of interaction with their infant also led to autism disorder. So unless and until you are working try to downsize your amount of time spent with phones and tv.

• Irregular Sleeping Time:

Rest is critical for the human body to work. Without appropriate sleep, it is hard to maintain a regular work schedule. Regularly, late hours at work can influence a father’s sleep. So during this time, a new father won’t be able to take care of the newborn. It is best to make your sleep cycle regular before the child is born.

So which one of these habits do you have? Let us know by commenting below, which have you have been able to quit.
